Overview
I'm a vibration engineer at Wood in Abu Dhabi with 4+ years across oil & gas and heavy industry. Most of my work sits where fluids, structures and machines meet: screening process pipework and small-bore connections for vibration-induced fatigue, measuring what's actually happening on site, and turning that into supports, damping or maintenance actions that fix the problem.
On the machinery side I diagnose gas engines, reciprocating compressors, pumps, gearboxes and fans using vibration, pressure-volume and modal (EMA/ODS) testing.
Outside the day job I build Skipper, a vibration analysis app, and write the explainers on this site, because most vibration theory is easier than it looks once you can see it move.
Experience
Vibration Engineer
- Primary vibration technical focal point on a major ADNOC Gas expansion programme, owning delivery from engineering review through site execution across FEED, EPC and operations.
- Lead FIV and AIV studies to Energy Institute guidelines, ranking pipework and small-bore connections by likelihood of failure and specifying mitigation.
- Nozzle adequacy checks for static equipment, control-valve noise and AIV risk, and pulsation, slug-flow and valve-transient assessments.
- Site campaigns: multi-channel vibration, strain and pressure measurement, plus EMA/ODS testing to confirm natural frequencies and resonance risk.
Junior Vibration Engineer
- Screened hundreds of process lines and small-bore connections for vibration-induced fatigue (FIV, AIV, FIT) across offshore and onshore facilities, and redesigned supports where needed.
- Condition assessment of 20 gas engines and reciprocating compressors, finding valve, valve-timing, bearing and lubrication faults.
- Developed standardised two-plane small-bore connection supports adaptable to different configurations, delivered to ALARP.
Trainee Engineer
- Kiln-area in-charge: planned and scheduled maintenance in SAP PM, with notifications, work orders and spares forecasting from failure history.
- Led overhauls and design changes on rotary valves, gearboxes, conveyors and cooler trolley assemblies to raise kiln-area reliability.
Research Team Lead
- Led a team of five on a gas-pipeline explosion mitigation study; optimised support span length with Design of Experiments, cutting projected new-build cost by 30%.
- Built a LabVIEW data-acquisition VI on NI hardware and ran mode-superposition harmonic analysis in Ansys, achieving a 20% resonance separation margin.
